I am kind of surprised on the kind of quality of News we are getting on the so called " intellectual " TV channels. The newsreader barely spends 30 seconds on the news and then they jump to a panel of mostly politicians, some ex - cops, journalists and then celebrity lawyers to debate the news of the day which is rarely of national importance or even if is of little consequence.
In most of the cases it is some crime, some judgement or some political gaffe .
Rarely any debate on the economic developments or the report on various government schemes or on any scientific topic.
No international news of any kind is ever shown on prime time TV.
The news channels do not show the progress of other nations and 90% of our educated population still thinks that Indians run the NASA !
We rerun Obama's clip when he is talking to the children to be aware of the kids in India or China umpteen times, but we never try to highlight our current backwardness in most of the fields.
I am an true patriotic indian belonging to the elite 42.something club but feel that instead of grinning on other nations shortcoming we should work out our deficiencies and not feel shy in highlighting them at any platform that can help.
In a country of skewed priorities where a larger population has access to mobile phones than to running water toilets we have to do something and the media plays a big role
The TV as the largest reach too has a huge responsibility to play out some percentage of real helpful( for the nation ) news and with an International perspective and significance.
The big guys on the larger than life roles and screens are you listening ?
